Work Ready Day
On Wednesday 18th September Moffat Academy hosted a Work Ready Day in association with DYW (Developing the Young Workforce). All S1, 2 and 3 students attended workshops and events aimed at making them aware of all the careers available to them in Dumfries and Galloway.
Some of the contributors were: The Care Training Consortium, where students learned how to save peoples lives and take their blood pressure. CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) who showed the students all the different careers that are needed within construction. The Royal Bank of Scotland, who explained how careers in banking are changing. Community Windpower, who had interactive demonstrations showing the careers in the renewable sectors. Loreburn Housing Association showed the students the vast array of different types of job in the housing sector. Scottish Engineering, who made the students aware of the wide variety of engineering opportunities available. There were many more contributors from the Army, to the SQA and Skills Development Scotland. We even had the Battle Bus, who provided a digital and virtual reality input!
Thank-you to all the people who gave up their time to share their passions with our young people. A special mention should go to Justin at DYW, who helped to get a wide variety of sectors and employers to attend this event. The students thoroughly enjoyed their day and have a lot of new ideas to help them plan for their future.
