World Book Day 2019
Moffat Academy took part in World Book Day celebrations this year by holding a Fairytale themed week. The week began on Monday 4th March with local storyteller and author Renita Boyle visiting the Nursery and Primary to tell stories and sing her songs. Renita then ran a creative writing class with some lucky first year pupils. Renita is always a hit with all of our pupils, we were so pleased she could make it to our World Book Day celebrations.
For World Book Day on Thursday 7th March we decorated a room as a castle, with assistance from the Art Department (thank you Miss McGuchan) and Nursery and Primary pupils created beautiful flowers and leaves to add to the fairytale theme. We asked pupils, parents and the local community for book donations to sell at the Book Sale for 50p each and made an amazing amount of £400 for school funds and books. All pupils who donated books were entered into a prize draw to win a large Easter egg. Miss Gibbon and Izzy (S2) visited Primary assembly on Friday 8th March to draw the winners who were Damian (P1), Grayson (P2/3) and David (P5) and a huge well done to all the fancy dress winners. The Secondary book donation prize winner was Amy (S2).
Thank you again to all who donated books and to all the pupils who gave up their time to help paint, decorate, create amazing displays and move books; special mentions to Izzy(S2) Abbie (S3) Hannah (S1) and (Aimie S2). Thank you to Miss McGuchan and the Art Department, parent helpers Lynn and Dave Anderson, Primary staff for your assistance with decorations, the school office for receiving many of the book donations and our photographers Harvey (S2), Ewan (S2) and Louis (S3). Thank you also to The Scottish Booktrust for the Live Literature Funding which enabled us to book an author for two sessions.
Renita Boyle in full flow!
