Cathy Cassidy Author Visit

Moffat Academy were honoured to welcome Cathy Cassidy to our school on Thursday 11thJune. We initially contacted Cathy to ask if she would be willing to help us raise funds for our Project Nepal team. We knew how busy Cathy must be as a successful author so imagine our surprise when we were offered a last minute slot on her tour!  Cathy planned to conduct a talk and book signing session for pupils during the afternoon and a Writers’ Workshop in the evening, the latter being our fundraiser. Cathy was put in touch with Dumfries High School for a morning visit.

Her afternoon with us was very successful with many excited pupils bringing their Cathy Cassidy books to get signed. The Moffat Bookshop visited for the day and sold Cathy’s books. Cathy entertained all the pupils with a colourful presentation including details of her background, her journey to being an author and a quiz for both girls and boys with a question and answer session to follow.

The Writers’ Workshop was a lovely evening spent gaining invaluable writing tips and advice. Guests also enjoyed refreshments with delicious cakes and biscuits. Cathy had a chance to meet Se-herki Sherpa who Project Nepal have been working with. Se-herki is a former Nepalese pupil of Moffat Academy who has family in Nepal and is part of a team of volunteers called ‘The Believers’ who help people in need in Nepal. Project Nepal’s funds are all donated to The Believers. £110 in total was made, raising the total donated to £1110.
