British Nutrition Foundation Drummond Education Awards 2016
Recently Jodie Shannon and her Home Economics teacher Jo Riddick from Moffat Academy travelled to London to receive British Nutrition Foundation Drummond Awards.
Jodie was the highest attaining student in Scotland for National 5 Home Economics. Jodie and her teacher were treated to a wonderful day out at the Royal College of Physicians in London. The awards were presented by the Princess Royal.
Jodie added ‘Winning the award came as a big shock and definitely was a brilliant way to finish the October term. Upon arrival at the college, we were treated to a lovely four course meal where I was given the opportunity to speak with eminent professors from top universities, Scientific researchers and representatives from major food companies like Sainsbury’s, about their research and about pursuing a career in nutrition. After the meal we went to the lecture hall where the awards ceremony took place. I was presented with my award by Princess Anne, who congratulated and encouraged me to continue with my work. I had an amazing day and felt like I learnt a lot about various careers and research that is ongoing. I would like to thank Mrs Riddick for accompanying me and also for making sure that there was never a dull day in class!’
