Moffat Academy Army Cadet Force School Linked Detachment
Presentation and Enrolment Ceremony
Moffat Academy Army Cadet Force School Linked Detachment is an innovative new project run in partnership by Moffat Academy, Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Community Learning and Development Service and the Army Cadet Force.
The project, which started in December 2015, is the first in Dumfries and Galloway and one of only seven school linked detachments in Scotland. ...
17 young people from the S2 year group are participating in the project which will run over 18 months to the end of their S3 school year as a timetabled curricular option. During the course of the project young people will have the opportunity to undertake various accredited awards including SQA National 4 Uniformed and Emergency Services, SQA Level 4 Employability Award, Army Cadet Syllabus, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, Saltire Awards and First Aid. Cadets are also expected to undertake volunteering in the community and links have already been made locally to take this area of work forward.
Lynda Halley, Youth Worker and Lieutenant Stuart Gray commented ‘The cadet programme is a powerful, alternative vehicle by which young people can develop a wide range of skills; confidence, self-esteem, resilience, good health and wellbeing, employability skills, respect, teamwork, leadership. It’s a real privilege to be working with such a motivated and enthusiastic group of young people who aspire to achieve their very best. ’
