S1 STEM Bridge Building, 27/4/2016
Our S1 pupils took part in an exciting 'bridge building challenge' to test their skills in civil engineering. Emma Waterworth and Lisa Kesson were our two special guests who both work for Atkins Global - a worldwide engineering company that have worked on things from the Burj Al Arab in the United Arab Emirates to the new M74 motorway in Glasgow! Emma spoke to the pupils about the rich and rewarding job prospects that exist in the field of civil engineering. Lisa also spoke about the types of science and technology based subjects she studied in school and her experiences at university.
The day was organised to promote the importance of studying STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects in school and saw pupils trying to build strong and sturdy bridges from rolled up newspapers. Well done to Mia Jackson, Torin Haley, Bethany Harris, Keiron Nelson and Sebastian Knox who took home the prize for the best bridge!
